When the Coronavirus Pandemic put television production to a halt, I began dedicating my time to exploring podcasting as another form of serialized storytelling.

“Rekindling with a high school crush is a lot easier when you have a psychic on hand” - KCRW’s Independent Producer Project

The year was 2016. The place: River Hill High’s graduation ceremony. This is the setting of the last time Jake laid his adolescent eyes on Molly Hennessy and realized that it would be his final chance to accomplish his long-time goal of asking her out. He failed to do so that day. Now, Jake will attempt to do just that by searching for a way to connect and perhaps even make it with his “one that got away.” And so, in an effort to bring this matter of the past to rest, we thought to seek some insight into the future. We met with a local psychic here in Manhattan, hoping she’d be able to provide Jake with some reassurance and advice for the near future.

Love Letter to New York

One writer’s move from a small town to the big city.

Many people dream about moving to a big city, and for one aspiring writer, that dream became a reality. I sat down with Jake to discuss the literature and movies, from author Saul Bellow to directors Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese, that inspired him to move New York City from his small town in Maryland, and why the things he hates most about New York are the reasons he loves it most.

However, as of April 1st, 2020, everything Jake loved about New York has come to a halt since NYC became epicenter of the Coronavirus pandemic. The city has gone quiet, and many people have fled... except Jake, who was faced with the choice to return safely to Maryland, but instead chose to stay in his beloved New York so that he could witness history.

Episode 01: Is Voting Worth It?

The Pros and Cons of Casting Your Ballot.

The topic of voting has never been more hotly debated up until the 2016 election, where many blamed the lack of voter turnout, the lowest it had been in 20 years, as the likely reason for the election result. This is largely in part due to the youngest demographic of voters, 18-29 years old, who are often cited as feeling their vote doesn't count, it is simply a drop in the bucket. Since then, the country has been bombarded with voting mantras, especially from celebrities such as Robert Downey Jr., Demi Lovato, and Lin Manuel Miranda, to provoke millennials to vote and to understand their opinions matter. In this episode, two millennials with polar-opposite views discuss their reasons behind their voting choices and how difficult it is to navigate information in a polarized society.
